Choose a straight, L, U or parallel kitchen and enter your wall lengths. You get running feet, cabinet front area and countertop area to compare quotes.
Modular kitchens are usually measured in running feet along the walls, and cabinet work is often compared by front area in square feet. The tool adds the lengths of each run. In L and U shapes it subtracts the corner depth so the corner is counted once, then multiplies by the unit height to get the front area.
Formula: L-shape running feet = A + B − depth. U-shape = A + B + C − 2 × depth. Front area = running feet × unit height.
| Layout | Best for |
|---|---|
| Straight | Narrow kitchens and studio flats |
| L-shape | Most 2 and 3 BHK kitchens, easy work triangle |
| U-shape | Large kitchens with lots of storage |
| Parallel | Long, narrow rooms with a 4 ft aisle |
Read more in our modular kitchen guide and the plywood guide, since kitchens usually need BWR or better.
Measure the length of each wall run along the front of the cabinets. In an L or U shape, count the corner only once. Running feet is the total length of base units, and wall units are measured the same way.
Base units are usually 2 ft deep and wall units about 1 ft deep. Heights are commonly 30 inches for each carcass. Your designer can vary them to suit your height and appliances.
Windows, the chimney and open gaps break up the wall units, so many kitchens have 50–75% coverage. Pick the closest option.
