Four kitchen layouts, and which room suits which
The shape of your kitchen decides the layout, not a catalogue. Here is how we think about each one before we draw it in 3D.
L-shaped kitchen
Suits: most flats, where two walls meet at a corner.
Watch for: the corner. We plan a pull-out or corner unit so it does not become dead space.
U-shaped kitchen
Suits: larger kitchens that need a lot of storage on three walls.
Watch for: width. If the arms are too close, two people cannot work together.
Straight kitchen
Suits: a single wall, narrow rooms and open plans.
Watch for: walking distance between hob and sink. We keep daily items near the cooking area.
Parallel kitchen
Suits: a long, narrow room with a walkway between two runs.
Watch for: door swing and walkway width, so cabinets open without blocking you.
What your kitchen is made of, tier by tier

How much does a modular kitchen cost in Chennai?
It depends on the size of your kitchen, the layout and the package you pick. We do not quote a per-square-foot rate because hardware and finish change the price a lot. Complete home packages start at ₹3,18,500 for a 2 BHK (Silver), and you can also order the kitchen alone. Send us your kitchen plan and appliance sizes and we will quote it. Send your details.
Which layout is best for my kitchen?
It depends on the shape of your room. L-shaped works in most flats, U-shaped suits larger rooms, a straight kitchen suits a single wall, and a parallel kitchen suits a long narrow room. Tell us your dimensions and where the door and windows are, and we will draw the options in 3D.
What is the difference between MR, BWR and BWP plywood?
MR is moisture resistant, BWR is boiling water resistant and BWP is boiling water proof. Silver kitchens use MR, Gold uses BWR and Platinum uses BWP. In a kitchen that sees steam and cleaning every day, the higher grades matter more near the sink. See our packages page for the full comparison.
Which hardware do you use inside the kitchen?
It depends on the tier. Silver uses standard wire baskets. Gold uses Ebco wire baskets in 304 stainless steel. Platinum uses Hettich tandem boxes. Our materials use hardware from brands such as Hettich and Ebco.
How long does a modular kitchen take to install?
The exact time depends on the kitchen. One client, Prabhakaran K, wrote that the modular kitchen and wardrobe installation was done in a week. For complete homes we work to a 49-day delivery promise. The date for your kitchen is confirmed once the design and materials are final.
Can I order only the kitchen and not the whole home?
Yes. You can start with the kitchen alone and add wardrobes and other rooms later. Some clients did the kitchen and wardrobes together. See all services.
Do you redo old kitchens?
Yes, renovation is one of the project types we take. Tell us it is a renovation when you contact us. Any civil changes such as shifting a plumbing point or a wall are done by our own masons.
What warranty does the kitchen carry?
Every House Decors project carries a 10-year warranty. Ask the team to go over the warranty terms for your kitchen when you get in touch.
Do I see the design before it is built?
Yes. You see the kitchen in 3D and approve the design and quote before any work starts. Kitchen appliance sizes such as the hob, chimney, fridge, microwave and dishwasher are used to plan the layout.
